Great student union which has improved over last 2 years. Beautiful location. Lecturers are very friendly and approachable. Facilities are good and improving. Very interesting course. Wide range of assessment style (essays, reports, presentations, seminar leadership etc.), good field trips too. Lecturers are friendly and helpful. Lovely town. Beautiful coastal location. Such a friendly community. Beautiful and modern accommodation. Wifi is quick. Cost is cheap. Close to campus.

Bachelor's in Plant Biology

The uni is great to study with, with lots of facilities like the library and union but also when the weather's good you can study up by the castle or down by the beach. It is a relaxed setting and helps to balance life from work and makes you feel able to breathe. One of the main downsides is that you are kind of in the middle of nowhere so there aren't the concerts or busy lifestyle that some other unis may be able to supply. I've also found my course quite a mismatch of subjects with some modules that I had to take but I didn't understand why. I wanted to study plants and I have done that but I think there could have been more modules suited to the course and sometimes it felt like my course was just a tag on another bigger course like microbiology or agriculture so I ended up learning things that I wasn't actually interested in. Blended learning worked out okay and it was welcomed to ask questions. However I think in person classes and having fieldtrips has helped me learn more and be able to interact with other students again and feel less isolated. My course like I said in the other question felt like a tag on to other courses. I had to take modules I wasn't actually that interested and I feel like for my course there needs to be more focus on the actually plant part of plant biology. By third year I really didn't expect to be learning about human diseases but here I am. It wasn't exactly what I signed up for but I have learnt things that will help me with my future. It wasn't perfect but it does the job. There is lots to do in summer especially on the beach. But in the winter months it can get a bit boring. The town has lots of independent shops which is great for local produce and also great for part-time work opportunities. The town is one of the safest I've been too and the community are very close and supportive and welcome anyone new. The rooms felt like a prison cell but for the money and the ensuite it worked out okay. You get what you need and the kitchen is the nicest part. Big with seating areas that work well if you get on with your flatmates. Heating was a slight problem as it is on a timer so in winter it feels like you have to constantly get up to turn it on and there are regular inspections and fire drills to complete. Overall for the money it's good accommodation.
