The Department seeks to nurture rich communication abilities in a multicultural and multilingual environment consisting of roughly equal numbers of foreign and Japanese students, with the aim of developing trilingual human resources conversant in Japanese, English, and their native languages. The Department offers a substantive course in Japanese studies covering areas including Japanese language education, tourism studies, history, culture, and subcultures, to equip students with skills for communicating Japan to the world or becoming Japanese language teachers.
