The Guangdong Technion - Israel Institute of Technology (GTIIT) is a Sino-foreign cooperative educational institution established by Shantou University (STU) and the Technion - Israel Institute of Technology (the Technion) with independent legal status. As the only sino-foreign joint university focusing on science and technology, GTIIT is also acting as the China Campus of the Technion. GTIIT is located in the city of Shantou, Guangdong province. The Ministry of Education approved GTIIT's formal establishment on December 5, 2016. GTIIT is modeled on the Technion, a leading university in Haifa, Israel and throughout the world. GTIIT is the flagship program in the cooperation between China and Israel, and has been fully supported by the Guangdong Provincial Government, Shantou Municipla Government and Li Ka Shing Foundation (LKSF).
GTIIT has been listed in the Guangdong High Level University Development Program. Four disciplines, including Materials Science and Engineering, Food Engineering, Chemical Engineering, and Environmental Engineering are listed as key disciplines.

This research will boost entrepreneurship and technology transfer, and foster a high-tech industrial ecosystem in Shantou and Guangdong Province. English is GTIIT's language of instruction. GTIIT will be comprised of three colleges: the College of Engineering; the College of Science; and the College of Life Sciences.
