The Master of Science in Project Management is a two-year programme of study. In the first year the students have six compulsory courses that count for a total of 45 ECTS, and two engineering courses (15 ECTS). In the third semester, the students have one engineering course (7.5 ECTS) an engineering specialization project (15 ECTS) and 7,5 ECTS of theoretical support courses. In the 4th semester, the students write their individual master's thesis (30 ECTS). A strong fluency in English is required as all lectures will be held in English, all course materials will be provided in English, and both the individual specialization project and master theses should be written in English of high quality. Experts in Teams is an obligatory course for all students in the second semester.
Programme specialization
Within the program the students choose one of the three specializations: 1) Civil Engineering, 2) Industrial Engineering or 3) Production and Quality Engineering.
Depending upon the engineering specialization, chosen in the first semester, the students will take their specialization project and the master's thesis at one of the three collaborating departments: 1) Department of civil and Environmental Engineering, 2) Department of Industrial Economics and Technology Management, or 3) Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering.
Deadline
The deadline for choosing one of the three specialization is in the first semester at the same date as the deadline for confirming the individual study plan.
Main profiles:
Civil Engineering:
Do you want to take part in changing the world? To solve the traffic challenges of the big city? Provide clean water to the people of the Earth? Build the world’s most environmentally friendly buildings? And construct safe bridges and tunnels? Project Managers in Civil Engineering are responsible for the construction and maintenance of the systems on which we depend; roads, bridges, clean water supply, sewers, energy supply, constructing homes, and developing the cityscape.
Industrial Engineering:
Do you want to operate in the crossroads between technology, business and management? As a Project Manager in Industrial Engineering you will manage complex challenges in interdisciplinary teams.
Production and Quality Engineering:
This specialization is located with the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering, a cross-disciplinary department working with construction, infrastructure, energy, ICT, and product/technology development projects. The project management group at the department runs Project Norway, an R&D-based center with approximately 35 of the largest and most influential project companies in Norway as partners. By working with researchers in the group and these companies, you can help make large and small projects more sustainable, innovative, nicer to work in, etc. You will be actively involved in research projects and linked to companies when writing your master thesis.
