This program is aimed at people who have just completed a baccalaureate in the field of letters as well as those who are already engaged in professional life, in particular in the teaching and cultural professions. It gives access to doctoral studies. The master's degree in letters with thesis allows you to develop your general knowledge, your analytical skills and your mastery of the language. You will follow seminars in small groups, based on reading and discussion, real initiations to current research. With the support of the teacher of your choice, you will simultaneously develop your own project on the corpus and the questions that drive you. Your dissertation, of around one hundred pages, may contain a literary creation component. By accessing the master's degree in letters, you will join a community, those of researchers in letters from three universities. In order to increase the scientific potential of the program, the master's degree in letters integrates professor-researchers from three institutions (UQTR, UQAC and UQAR) into its operation. This community meets every spring to exchange ideas during a young researchers' symposium or major international conferences. You can attend certain seminars, depending on the year and if necessary, in a constituent other than UQTR. The duration of studies is normally two years. Holders of a specialized graduate diploma in children's literature (3009) from UQTR may apply for the master's program on the basis of experience. RESEARCH WORK
Dissertation (30 credits)

Option A – research dissertation:

This dissertation leads the student to write an analytical work in which he or she demonstrates his or her ability to formulate a research problem and to satisfy the resulting objectives by establishing an adequate theoretical and methodological framework.

Option B – research-creation dissertation

This dissertation leads the student to develop both a completed artistic composition (creation component) and a reflexive approach, of a critical or theoretical order, which is related to the creation presented (research section).
