Advertising allows us to connect to our audiences on a mass scale, and therefore the understanding of our social, cultural, political, community and economic influence is paramount. Graduates will enter their careers with an understanding of the effects of advertising on society and social constructs, and recognize their role in shaping the cultural landscape. Advertising study at OCAD University encompasses 2D and 3D disciplines, embracing both traditional and new emerging technologies. It involves digital, analog, virtual and experiential platforms, integrating traditional forms of communication and usability with new user experiences and interfaces. Storytelling, from Indigenous as well as brand points of view, is integral to your study in the four years at OCAD U. Students are encouraged to challenge standard narratives and acknowledge different cultural viewpoints, abilities, and values. Through the philosophy of Respectful Design, students will create messages that emphasize need over want. The program is taught in a studio-based format by faculty who are Industry-acclaimed leaders, researchers and practitioners. Exploring and applying learning in design, copywriting, typography, layout, strategy, consumer and community behaviours and storytelling, students create solutions for new and established brands, companies and communities, and across multiple channels.
