📚About the Program

Mathematics is a language that answers real-world questions in science and engineering. Statistics is the science of information.

📖Program Curriculum

Concordia University offers a program in Mathematics and Statistics that leads to either a Bachelor of Arts (BA) or Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree. This program combines the study of mathematical theory and statistical methods to provide students with a strong foundation in both disciplines. The program prepares students for careers in fields such as data analysis, actuarial science, finance, or further study in mathematics, statistics, or related fields. While the specific courses and requirements may vary, here is a general overview of what the Mathematics and Statistics program at Concordia University might include:

Core Mathematics Courses: The program typically begins with core mathematics courses that provide a foundation in mathematical theory and techniques. These courses may cover subjects such as calculus, linear algebra, discrete mathematics, differential equations, and mathematical modeling. These courses provide the necessary mathematical background for advanced studies in mathematics and statistics.

Core Statistics Courses: Core statistics courses introduce students to the fundamental principles and methods of statistical analysis. Topics covered may include probability theory, statistical inference, regression analysis, experimental design, and multivariate analysis. These courses provide the necessary statistical knowledge and skills to analyze and interpret data.

Advanced Mathematics Courses: Advanced mathematics courses build upon the core mathematics courses and delve deeper into advanced topics. These courses may cover areas such as real analysis, abstract algebra, numerical analysis, complex analysis, mathematical logic, or topology. Students gain a deeper understanding of mathematical concepts and develop problem-solving skills.

Applied Statistics Courses: Applied statistics courses focus on the practical application of statistical methods to real-world problems. Students learn about topics such as statistical modeling, data visualization, time series analysis, nonparametric methods, or statistical software tools. These courses emphasize the application of statistical techniques to analyze and interpret data in various fields.

Probability Theory: Probability theory courses explore the mathematical theory behind random events and uncertainty. Students learn about concepts such as random variables, probability distributions, conditional probability, stochastic processes, and mathematical modeling of random phenomena. These courses provide the theoretical foundation for understanding and working with probability and uncertainty.

Electives: The program may offer a range of elective courses that allow students to specialize in specific areas of interest within mathematics and statistics. These electives may cover topics such as mathematical optimization, mathematical finance, data mining, Bayesian statistics, or computational statistics.

Capstone Project: Many programs include a capstone project or a senior seminar where students apply their mathematical and statistical knowledge to solve real-world problems or conduct independent research. The capstone project may involve data analysis, mathematical modeling, or statistical inference in a specific application area.

Please note that the specific courses and requirements for the Mathematics and Statistics program at Concordia University may differ from what is outlined above. It's important to visit the official Concordia University website or contact the university directly for the most accurate and up-to-date information about their Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Statistics program.
