📖Program Curriculum
Our BA Ancient History and Archaeology allows you to combine and pursue your interests in the history and archaeology of the ancient world. We will equip you to study the Greek and Roman past through textual and archaeological evidence, from Greek pottery to Roman inscriptions, ancient cities to classical authors.
You will study a broad chronological and geographical sweep, with topics including:
the rise of the Greek city-states
classical Athens
the foundations of the Roman Empire
the transformation of the Roman Empire in Late Antiquity
the Byzantine Empire from the foundation of Constantinople to the medieval period.
You will learn the essential analytical techniques of archaeology to develop your understanding of the relationship between theory and practice in the interpretation of material remains.
This ancient history and archaeology degree is ideal if you are interested in understanding the ancient past through words, texts, objects, buildings and places. We will also encourage you to question accepted histories, to construct and present convincing historical and archaeological arguments using texts, images, and material objects and remains as evidence.
If you opt for the Foundation Year route, this will fully prepare you for undergraduate study. It is ideal if you are returning to study after a gap, or if you have not previously studied the relevant subjects, or if you didn't achieve the grades you need for a place on your chosen undergraduate degree.
