📚About the Program

The BA (Hons) PR and Marketing Management degree at Cardiff Met offers a defined focus on becoming a Public Relations specialist with a marketing degree. The degree has been developed in conjunction with the Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR) ensuring the teaching content is well aligned with industry expectations. All our marketing courses have a renowned reputation for their vocational orientation - becoming a 'Met Marketer' will enable you to gain the academic knowledge and practical skills needed to succeed in a PR and marketing career. The BA (Hons) PR and Marketing Management has been developed in conjunction with the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) to ensure that teaching content is in line with industry expectations. The course has been awarded the CIM 'Accredited Degree' status – this accreditation provides our students with an opportunity to gain exemption from both the CIM Certificate in Professional Marketing and Diploma in Professional Marketing Qualifications. The degree in Public Relations and Marketing Management will enable students to develop the skills and ability to think creatively and adopt the latest tools in modern Public Relations. The PR landscape is undergoing significant change as consumer and organisations alike rely less and less on traditional media to disseminate and receive information and more and more on instant digital communications – appropriate skilled PR practitioners are more in demand than ever. This course offers students the chance to develop their knowledge and skills in the interlinked disciplines of public relations, media and marketing. Students will develop their talent for communication and learn how to identify a target audience, prepare effective messages and select appropriate PR channels. Students will learn how to use social media and develop creative design skills in response to the needs of the needs of the current marketing environment. Students will benefit from a multidisciplinary approach, taught by academic experts, experienced practitioners, guest speakers resulting in a ‘learning by doing’ approach. In addition to this, as a Met-Marketer you will be able to participate in our CIM Student chapter and follow in the footsteps of our award students by participating in the CIM based creative and entrepreneurial activities. The competition will give you enable you to experience what it is like to work for an marketing agency by working on a campaign for a well-known industry brand with the top 12-finalists being invited to pitch their ideas to the client face to face. Our lecturers have both academic knowledge and industry experiences to teach you the skills you need for the workplace after graduation. You will undertake a compulsory work placement module in the second year as this is considered an essential requirement for all marketing students. For those who wish, there is the additional opportunity to take a sandwich degree in which the third year could be spent undertaking an appropriate marketing industry placement. 📖Program Curriculum

The course integrates ‘real world’ experience into our teaching practices to enable a clear understanding of the Marketing Management process. Assignments are based on industry examples and there are also guest lecturers from practitioners from companies.

You will also be given the option of taking a language as an extracurricular activity and to study abroad for a semester to broaden your experience and skills; all an advantage in achieving success in a PR and Marketing career.

Year One

You will follow 120 credits of core modules:

Introduction to Marketing (20 credits)*
Digital Media for Marketers (20 credits)
Branding and PR Concepts (20 credits)
Finance for Managers (20 credits) *
Managing People and Organisations (20 credits)
Law and the World of Business (20 credits)
*Module available through the medium of Welsh

Year Two

You will follow 100 credits of core modules and you can choose 20 credits of optional modules:

Core modules:

Consumer Behaviour (20 credits)
Creative Marketing Communication for Public Relations (20 credits)
Digital Analytics (20 credits)
Marketing Research Methods (20 credits)
PR in Practice inc Work Placement (20 credits)

Option modules**:

Search Marketing: Content, SEO + PPC (20 credits)
Mobile and Social Media Marketing (20 credits)
Sports, Events and Sponsorship Marketing (20 credits)

In year two there you will be supported to find a relevant and useful work placement. The work placement provides the experience of putting the theory into practice and observing how the theory is used in an organisation, first-hand. This has been very well received by employers and will give you an advantage when applying for jobs after graduation.

Year in Industry: The option of spending a year in industry between the 2nd and final years has been included to allow you to complete the degree with a level of practical experience. This option of practical experience can be incorporated in the three-year degree course undertaking practical work in industry during term time or in holiday breaks during the course.

Year Three/Year Four

Year three for students not taking the year of experience option, or Year Four for those students taking the practical experience option.

Students follow 60 credits of core modules and then choose 60 credits of option modules.

Entry Requirements

You are not eligible to apply to this program because:

The minimum age is 18.

English fluency is required.
You need to be either:
- A native English speaker
- Studied a degree in English before
- Can demonstrate a high level of English
- Having an English certificate such as IELTS level 6 or TOEFL 95 and above is an advantage.

Minimum education level: High School.

The program is competitive, you need to have a high grades of Average A, 70%, or a high GPA.

Application process:

Applying Online is simple in just a few steps. More information is available here.

The first steps are to choose the programs, pay the application fee and upload the application documents.

Once submitted to Global Admissions, we will review your application within 2-3 days and proceed to the university or ask you for further clarification

After it has been processed to the university you will receive your unique application ID from each university.

The university may contact you directly for further questions.

We will then follow up each week with the university for updates. As soon as there is any update we will let you know. If you have made other plans, decide to withdraw / change address at any time please let us know.

After you have been accepted you will receive your admissions letter electronically and asked to pay the non-refundable deposit to the university.

Once you have paid the deposit the university will issue you the admissions letter and visa form to your home country.
